BPi is a full-service energy contractor specializing in commercial renewable energy systems. We’re a licensed California general contractor (A, C10, C39) with complete in-house capabilities—from engineering and design through construction and long-term operations & maintenance.

Unlike solar sales companies that subcontract everything, we control every phase of your project. Our experienced team has delivered over 500 MW of renewable energy systems across the United States, consistently on time and on budget.

Brian PetersonManaging Partner / CTO

Brian co-founded BPi in 2008 after owning construction company SeaTech for 6 years. Holding General Engineering “A” and “C-10” Electrical Contractor Licenses, he has built and maintained approximately 428 MW of electrical generation, serving clients including Mitsubishi Power Systems, Baxter Bioscience, Allergan, and Bayer.

Barend VenterChairman of the Board

Barend Venter is a serial entrepreneur with multiple successful exits, serving as Chairman at BPi, which since 2008 has closed a $30 million project portfolio with Treasury Wines owned by Alliant Capital. He founded Blue Sky Utility in 2009, remaining CEO and board member after its 2021 merger with Nofar Energy for just under $100 million, and as a renewable energy veteran, he consults for the CEC and CPUC.

Johann SmitPresident

As President of BPi (Commercial Solar EPC) and 1Roof Solution (Commercial & Industrial Roofing), Johann integrates scalable systems, leadership development, and financial discipline to drive long-term profitable growth, having previously scaled Blue Sky Utility to a $91 million acquisition by Nofar Energy.
